Mitcham & Carshalton RUFC were victorious in their first match of the season, beating the Civil Service Sports Council Barbarians at home 62-37 on Wednesday evening.

It was the first friendly Mitcham have played under a floodlit pitch and overpowered a strong Civil Service side. With aspirations of promotion back into Surrey 3, Mitcham put a good performance with fly half Paul Jones scoring four tries for Mitcham, and Luke Halford with Charlie Smee both scoring a brace.

Mitcham will be taking part in friendlies leading up to their first league match in Surrey 4 against Wandsworthians on September 23.
